Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:1–1:9

At the time of Paul's letters, the city of Corinth was a was a prosperous trading city.  However, it was full of many different religions and philosophies.   As a wealthy city, it had its share of materialism and immorality too.  Paul wrote to the Corinthians to offer encouragement and correction in a city where Christians were prone to worldly philosophies and lifestyles.

This message from the first few passages in Paul's letter to the Corinthians will set the stage for the wisdom to be found in the rest of this letter from God's word.
